Sift all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl.
Stir in grated butter and lemon oil. Add water, a tablespoon at a time until just enough to form a soft dough.
Knead lightly until smooth.
Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Gently roll out into a 12-in x 10-in rectangle.
Spread fig jam evenly over the dough. Sprinkle ground almond on the top.
Starting at one of the short ends, roll dough loosely into a log.
Place roll seam side down on a baking sheet. Bake in a 350°F (180°C) for 40 minutes or until risen and golden brown.
Allow it to cool slightly before cutting into thick slices.
